A Big Night in Baseball Tonight?

July 31, 2007

Could tonight be the night that 3 milestones are reached?  Can A-Rod join The 500 Home Run Club tonight as the Yankees host the White Sox tonight in New York?  Can Tom Glavine finally reach the ever elusive 300 career win plateau?  Is tonight the night that Barry Bonds ties the biggest record of them all, the overall Home Run Record?  Well we might see one or maybe even 2 of those milestones reached tonight, as it is doubtful that Bonds will play tonight against the Dodgers.   Alex Rodriguez seems the most likely to reach his milestone tonight as he faces Jose Contreras, who he has not hit a homer off but he has had 2 home runs in 28 at-bats against the White Sox this year.  As for Tom Glavine, will he have the right stuff tonight in Milwaukee?  As he has struggled in his last 12 starts posting a 5.43 ERA during that stretch. Also going 0-3 in his last 5 road starts with an inflated ERA of 11.96.

I digg the ‘50 Highest Paid Athletes of all time’

July 31, 2007

I really dugg this article by Sports Illustrated. Very cool to see that with all the trash talk about Phil Mickelson and his putter, he’s still way higher on the list than I would’ve thought.

Check out The Fortunate 50. If you’re looking for any Major sports team  or Pro Athletes Salary, the guys have been hard at work posting the most recent  NBA, NHL, and MLB Salaries (NFL will be up soon) and not only are they more accurate than all the major sports news sites combined, but they are really straight forward (NBA team salaries have color coding listing the player status ex. player option, Team option etc…) Start with my home town crew The Toronto Blue Jays Player Salaries.

Dale Earnhardt Merges with Ginn Racing

July 25, 2007

The deal involving the merger of Dale Earnhardt Incorporated with Ginn Racing is set to be announced Wednesday, July 25th and has been confirmed to the AP as of Tuesday evening.

As part of the deal, DEI Inc.  will take on the No. 01 Chevy, – driven by  Mark Martin and greenhorn Aric Almirola. DEI inc will also take Ginn car No. 14’s crew (driven by two time Daytona 500 hundred winner Sterling Martin)  along with the 14 points already earned by Ginn Racing and apply them to DEI’s No. 15 – Paul Menard.

The added points now guarantee Menard’s position inside the top 35 beginning with this week’s field.

DEI will still be running run Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 8 and Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 1 car. which  are both  both owned by Dale’s Stepmother – Teresa Earnhardt.

Suns Trade more first round picks

July 23, 2007

The Phoenix Suns did it again on Friday, trading away 2 future first round picks along with Kurt Thomas to the Seattle SuperSonics for a conditional future second round draft pick. The Suns have become known for trading or selling their first round draft choices over the past three or four years, so this move comes as no big surprise, especially since they have been looking to dump Kurt Thomas’ hefty salary. The one thing the Suns do accomplish with this move besides free up some space below the Luxury Tax Number, is they also acquire a $8 Million trade exception. Which if you have been following the NBA rumor mill over the past view months could go in a long way in trying to acquire the much sought out Kevin Garnett.

July 16, 2007

Tom Glavine is getting closer to 300 wins. Check out the full list of 300 game winners. Looks like he’ll do it next year but until the 2008 MLB Schedule is released no one can really begin to speculate. Unless he get’s traded we know that Tom Glavine will be playing for the New York Mets. Have a look through all the MLB Team Salaries or go straight to the New York Mets Salaries at Sportscity.com. By the way, there’s always a really good selection of MLB Rumors too..

Tony Kanaan – Firestone Indy 200

July 16, 2007

Team Andretti Green looked good in the first 30 laps with Kanaan and Franchitti exchanging first place a few times before Tony Kanaan did a half-spin and made contact. He hit the outside retaining wall at the exit of Turn 2 and climbed from the car with no injury other than to his car. I attempted to find some stats on operating costs of Indy Car teams but couldn’t find anything worth posting.

If you’re not a follower of Indy Car theres a cool explanation of how Downforce works at Indycar.com .

Anyone know where to find Indy Car Cost, team costs etc..?
